A lot of my work revolves around emerging technologies, postmodernism and the unsettling.
This particular piece dabbles with the idea of 'uncanniness'. The Uncanny Valley is a psychological phenomenon that describes the feeling of unease when something is almost human but not quite. It can apply to robots, computer-generated characters, or other non-living objects that appear human-like.
I wanted the viewer to feel uncertain with what is being perceived, knowing that something is not quite right but entirely unable to pinpoint exactly what. The post-production editing I have applied is supposed to emulate a 'dreamlike' aesthetic, one with absolute blacks and warm whites with an older camera that may evoke feelings of nostalgia.
The eyes are not real. Extremely high fidelity and a myriad of generations were put into this. I wanted it to look real, and maybe too real, I then added sparkles to indicate it was hyperreal; touching once again on postmodernism.
The word 'pure' in one of my favourite fonts is situated in the forefront of the image, blended in such a way that it reminds me of when you draw on a foggy window.
