Objects in their present state can retell a story.
This hoodie is the physical manifestation of a breakup. Each stain, blemish, and flaw is intentional and the result of an action and emotion; as a viewer you can decode what was once felt
All emotions and actions that were evoked have been transferred onto the hoodie, the fact objects have the ability to remove the ephemerality of emotions is beautiful. This single piece of fabric captures such powerful emotions as they remain stagnant and unmoving, a snapshot of what was once felt.
As if frozen in time, each emotion can be seen in its utmost rawest form, just as powerful as the day they were first perceived. The foundation smudge from a hug, mascara facilitated by tears and the lipstick marks wiped unfashionable on the sleeve all retell what happened.
Concealer, foundation, mascara, water and lipstick on an artificially aged cotton hoodie. This hoodie was then washed and donated to charity.
The hoodie was aged through a myriad of harsh wash cycles, brushed then stained with various drinks then altered. I then cut a thumb hole on the right sleeve and tied the drawstring to further enhance the 'broken in' effect I was going for. The aim was to keep everything as authentic as possible, eyes were wiped and makeup was smudged, all for the sake of realism.
Objects can disregard the fleeting nature of emotions, their permanence has its own value. Washing this hoodie removes all that there once was, reflecting on the ephemerality of such feelings.
